Dear friends,

2018 merits a new creative project.  I’ve been focusing on visual art the past few years, but throughout the adventure, I’ve been listening to records, complete albums to be specific. When your hands are covered in painting materials, it can get messy and cumbersome to have to constantly switch music, whether it’s flipping an album or even pressing a button on my phone.  But during the process of starting to listen through 20 years of record collecting, I began to realize that I actually prefer the album experience when I’m trying to concentrate. It helps me concentrate on what’s right in front of me, it makes my mind flow.

The story of this project began spontaneously. We were driving back from the desert on New Year’s Day. I was in the passenger seat gazing and thought, “It seems like a good time to start going deeper with music.” I turned on a New Order album I don’t think I’ve ever listened to from start to finish. By the second song, I heard things I had never heard before. By the fifth, I was feeling inspired and already dreaming about what album we’d listen to next. And by the time it was over, this project was born.

Welcome to 1 Album A Day.

365 days. 365 albums.

The rules. I hate rules, so let’s keep these short.

  1. Listen to 1 album a day from start to finish.
  2. No skipping.

That’s it. I’m sure there will be questions that arise. But I love writing funny FAQ’s…

I hope you join along on this listening project. In these fragmented times, it’s good to have dialogue from friends, longer thoughts and a sonic meander.
