Happy Birthday David Bowie!
I had decided the other day that Week 2, “B” would not be a week full of “boring,” or “blues,” or “blue,” or “B” albums. It would be a week devoted to David Bowie, because his work always impacted my life and then it turned out today, Monday, January 8th is his birthday.
My friend Jules liked to say, “in life, there is no coincidence,” but my life is full of them. It’s what makes the daily grind meaningful.
Years ago, I was driving east on Beverly Boulevard, past La Brea, listening to “Drive-In Saturday,” when the lyrics, “She’s uncertain if she likes him /But she knows she really loves him/It’s a crash course for the ravers/It’s a drive-in Saturday,” began looping in my head. And I thought, “it’s a crash course for the ravers! That’s what I’m going to call my book!”
But first I had to register the domain. So I did. And I’ve held onto it for many years, as one does sometimes, and didn’t do anything with it because I’m a writer that goes through long silences, until I needed a place to house this project. So here we are.
Bring on a week of Bowie albums. And some stories. First up, “Aladdin Sane”
